About Tom Gregory: I’m Tom, a trainee patent attorney at Appleyard Lees IP LLP. My work is primarily focused on the mechanics and electronics sectors. I also have valuable experience in computer-implemented inventions and software. My recent work has been for clients in the aerospace and electronic consumer goods industries, and for university research departments across various fields of innovation.
On Thursday 12 May 2022 I attended the Medilink Healthcare Business Awards at the Principal Hotel in York.
Medilink are a specialist consultancy for the life-sciences sector in the North of England. Appleyard Lees had sponsored the Partnership with Academia Award. The award was won by LightOx, a business developing light activated chemotherapy for treatment of early-stage mouth cancers.
I was invited to attend the awards by Partner Simon Bradbury, along with my colleagues Paul Beynon, Christopher Mason and Rachel Mercer. It was a wonderful evening celebrating a challenging but productive year in the healthcare sector.
Events such as these are an excellent opportunity to make connections and meet interesting and influential people. It’s a pleasure to return to in-person events and is something I have missed enormously during the pandemic. I hope to attend many more this year!
It was only earlier that day that we had our annual (in “normal” times) professional development programme (PDP). The PDP is a two-day internal training programme consisting of sessions on various topics, including a talk about networking. The awards evening was a fantastic opportunity to put the lessons of the talk to good use!
