As a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney, Chris works with his clients to develop pragmatic IP strategies that further their commercial interests. Day-to-day Chris handles cases in fields including industrial chemistry and life sciences, involving innovative technologies such as new synthetic polymers, catalysts, membranes, and alternative protein technologies.
Working with his clients, Chris develops pragmatic intellectual property (IP) strategies that secures the client’s own IP protection whilst avoiding the IP of others. Within these strategies Chris prepares, prosecutes and manages portfolios of patent applications in Europe and worldwide. Chris also represents his clients at hearings before the European Patent Office and advises in relate to freedom to operate and contentious infringement matters, as well as commercial agreements.
Chris holds a first class Chemistry MSci degree from the University of Nottingham. During his degree Chris spent a year employed as a medicinal chemist at GSK, where he worked on small molecule inhibition of hepatitis C. In the final year of his degree and into the summer following graduation, Chris developed a new synthetic route to 1,2-benzisoxazole compounds, assisted with the award of a research grant from AstraZeneca. Chris also holds a LLM in Intellectual Property Law with Distinction from the University of Manchester.
Outside of work, Chris enjoys maintaining an involvement with the wider chemistry community by serving as treasurer of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Central Yorkshire local group and as a committee member of the society’s Law Group.
