Monifa Phillips

Trainee Patent Attorney

MPhys, PhD, PGCert

Monifa’s experience in academic research and in patents has given her a good understanding of the priorities held by clients from different backgrounds.

Monifa’s work involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications within the field of electronics including, for example, computer-implemented inventions.

She is particularly interested in consumer electronics, especially augmented and virtual reality technologies, and autonomous vehicles.

Monifa started training to become a patent attorney in 2018 after obtaining master’s degree in physics from the University of Sheffield and a PhD in materials physics from the University of Glasgow.

Her PhD involved the fabrication of transition metal oxide memory storage devices, using pulsed laser deposition and lithographic techniques, and focused on understanding resistive switching memory storage mechanisms triggered therein, using electron energy loss spectroscopy.
