Oliver Manners

Trainee Patent Attorney

MSci, BA

Oliver is a trainee, working in the Manchester chemistry team. His background working in a broad, interdisciplinary PhD programme helps him to understand the challenges of working at the interfaces between traditional disciplines.

Oliver is training to draft and prosecute patent applications for chemical inventions. He has a particular interest in bioinorganic chemistry, catalysis and metal-organic cages.

Always keen to learn about cutting-edge chemical technologies, Oliver is excited to hear about new inventions and help to protect them.

Oliver graduated with a first class undergraduate Master’s degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. Focusing on chemistry, his research looked at photo-active metal-organic cages. He recently submitted his PhD thesis to the University of Manchester on modelling metalloenzymes and ruthenium catalysis. His research experience has varied from protein expression and computational biochemistry to organic and inorganic synthesis.
